Evaluating Product Testing Methods: A Theoretical FrameworkDepartment of Home Economics, Arizona State University, Tempe 85281
Department of Human Development and Consumer Sciences, University of Houston, Texas 77004 This article presents a new theoretical framework for evaluating the utility of product testing methods. Use of the framework results in a systematic and comprehensive evaluation of four major factors which determine a method's utility, including its validity, reliability, manageability, and essentiality. Applications of the framework are shown for three contrasting situations, including comparative evaluation of test methods, comparative testing of products, and formulation of public policy.
